Sly Europe Ltd, based in Spalding, Lincs will be demonstrating their machinery at Groundswell for the first time. We caught up with Sales Manager Dave Raynes to hear what we can expect to see at their demonstration stand at Groundswell 2017, and why they are not attending Cereals 2017.
Please give us an overview of what you’re bringing to Groundswell this year: We will have our new Boss drill. This will be a small demonstrator unit that we can transport easily. Showing all the options on the drill available and how the coulter can perform so well in many different conditions.
What is the unique offering that your company brings conservation minded farmer?: We have a large skill set as farmers ourselves. We aren't a large industrial steel processor, we provide innovative equipment for conservation/sustainable agriculture. By remaining this way we feel we can keep providing innovations and technologies from all over the world to benefit our customers. We like to offer as many options on our machines as possible, as we find farmers face new challenges and our machine is very adaptable..
What are your predictions for the future of no-till farming in the UK?: Education is the main barrier to no till's success in our opinion. The farmer must fully understand the concept of no-till; its challenges, limitations and of course the huge benefits you can achieve from it. No matter what any drill manufacturer tells you, the drill is only one small part of achieving success in no-till. We like to be open and honest about this.
Any product or company news you’d like to share with readers?: We are launching our complete product range into the UK this autumn, whereas before we have been focused on the French and Eastern markets. We have new staff joining us in June to handle demonstrations and enquiries.
Any no-till product developments in the pipeline that you can tell us?: We are integrating the USA made Precision planting down pressure system into our coulters, this gives split second control of down pressure to ensure that the coulters keep seed depth extremely accurate.
Why does your company think it’s a good idea to attend Groundswell 2017?: The focus on the product line is great. We didn't attend last year but we like the idea of the show. We are not attending Cereals for the first time in 6 years in favour of Groundswell as we feel Cereals no longer offers good value for money.
What’s your favourite colour when it comes to farm machinery? Black and White!
Catch Dave and his team at demo stand D3 on 29th June. They will be showcasing the Boss drill alongside other direct drill machinery companies.
